TADECO is GlobalGAP certified

Its desire to become the best in its industry on an international level has led Tagum Agricultural Development Company Inc. (Tadeco) to get recognized by an international certifying organization for its efforts in promoting food safety and sustainable agriculture.

Global Good Agricultural Practices (GlobalGAP), an international non-profit certifying organization, has certified Tadeco for putting food safety and sustainability as top priority.

Alexander N. Valoria, President of the premium Cavendish banana producing and exporting company, welcomed the certification as it has shown that the company has become at par with the best companies worldwide in food safety and sustainability.

“This is a milestone for us; this is something that we’ve undertaken with conviction to pursue because we know that the markets will be asking for this,” said Valoria as he pointed out that the company would continue its best in order to sustain its high standards in food production.

GlobalGAP certified the Tadeco after it passed the stringent certification audit that the Control Union Certifications (CUC) conducted. CUC, another independent, internationally operating certification body that carries out inspections and issues certificates, is the leading certification body for GlobalG.A.P. certification in the Philippines.

Coen Everts, CUC-Philippines country manager, said banana companies need to get certification from GlobalGAP if they wanted to explore the international markets.

“GlobalGAP is now being recognized by all the major players in the banana industry as the farm management certification that needs to be put in place if you want to cater to the large markets particularly Japan. So all the large companies have adopted GlobalGAP and I’m glad that Tadeco is one of those,” said Everts.

Before the GlobalGAP certification, Tadeco also received Philippine Good Agricultural Practices (PhilGAP) certifications for two consecutive years.

These certifications have proven that Tadeco banana farm practices are at par among the best Cavendish banana-producing companies in the world in terms not only of quality and productivity, but also food safety and sustainability, environmental protection, and occupational safety and health for workers.

A subsidiary of the Anflocor Group of Companies, Tadeco is one of the leading producers and exporters of fresh Cavendish bananas to Japan, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Russia, China and Middle East.
